University of Sargodha Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tasawar Hayat (H.I., S.I., T.I.) has called for greater youth engagement, character building and critical thinking, stressing that young people’s potential must be nurtured to strengthen society and counter the spread of disinformation.
Addressing a special interactive session with students, he said universities had a vital role in developing responsible citizens alongside imparting education. He emphasized humility, tolerance and respect as essential values, urging students to learn from their teachers and parents and approach differing views with understanding.
Highlighting the risks of misinformation, Prof. Hayat said the unchecked spread of false information could undermine public trust, fuel social divisions and harm national interests. He urged students to verify information before sharing it and use their judgement responsibly, particularly in the digital environment.
Referring to youth development as a national priority, he said young people should be provided with opportunities to develop their academic, personal and professional capabilities. Meaningful engagement with students, he added, could help institutions better understand their perspectives and devise practical ways to support their growth. He also referred to the Punjab government’s focus on youth empowerment and skills development.
On the university’s progress, the vice chancellor said that while several positive developments had taken place, further improvement required collective effort. He urged students to take ownership of their institution and country, emphasizing that national progress depended on responsible citizenship and a shared commitment to the common good.
The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, during which students discussed academic and professional development with the vice chancellor. He responded to their questions and assured them of his support.
