About Us
The University of Sargodha is a leading public-sector university in the province of Punjab, Pakistan, with roots that go back more than a century.
Our History
The University's story began in 1916 in the historic town of Shahpur Sadar with the founding of O'Brien Islamia High School. Housed in elegant Indo-Saracenic red-brick buildings, the school had a mission that went beyond education: to enlighten minds, build character and create opportunities for the people of the region.
In 1929, the school became Government College Shahpur, a milestone in the educational history of the region. In 1934, it was renamed De'Montmorency College and grew into a symbol of academic progress and distinction in Punjab. The institution later became Government College, which was granted a University Charter in 2002.
The University Today
From its main campus in Sargodha city, the University serves around 26,000 students and has more than 570 faculty members, over 300 of whom hold a PhD. Its 41 departments, 4 institutes, 1 school and 5 constituent colleges are organised into eight faculties: Agriculture; Arts and Humanities; Computing and Information Technology; Engineering and Technology; Medical and Allied Health Sciences; Pharmacy; Sciences; and Social Sciences.
Around 1,700 administrative staff support the University's work, and more than 200 government and private colleges across the province are affiliated with it.

In partnership with Henan Normal University, China, the University established Pakistan's fifth Confucius Institute.
Community Service
The University runs a citrus nursery and produces its own mineral water, KhusAab, for its students, faculty and staff. It also has a strong tradition of community service: its Medical Complex and Research Center provides outpatient (OPD), pharmacy and diagnostic services to students, staff and the people of Sargodha.
